Avoid Distractions

Submitted by Paul Barnes on July 27, 2010 - 3:05pm.

There are bumper stickers and plaques that deliver the message, "The main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing."  After you sort out all those words, you realize this is a reminder that it is easy to get distracted.  It is easy for us to take our eye off the ball.  This is very possible in the church.

On the Team

Having served at Madison Christian Church since January of 1996, nothing should really surprise me about this amazing congregation.  However, it is good to get the occasional reminder of what an extraordinary congregation Madison Christian Church truly is.

God's Process

Submitted by Paul Barnes on July 12, 2010 - 12:45pm.

A few months ago I preached a series of messages and began each sermon with the following question:  "If each one won one, and each one won won one, how many would be won when each one won won one?"  The answer:  Lot's of people.  That is God's process for winning the world to Jesus Christ.

Why We Exist

Submitted by Paul Barnes on July 6, 2010 - 1:50pm.

A church can exist primarily for the benefit of those already present.  It is important to minister to the Body of Christ, but Jesus has made clear that there is another purpose.  Our belief is that the Lord has called our church into existence primarily to reach out continually to those who have never given their lives to Christ and

Unashamed

Submitted by Paul Barnes on June 29, 2010 - 4:20pm.

One of my favorite songs, not a new song by any means, says "I am not ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ."  That comes from the apostle Paul's famous line in Romans 1:16, "I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes:  first for the Jew, then for the Gentile."

Great Teamwork

Submitted by Paul Barnes on June 23, 2010 - 2:06pm.

Madison Christian Church and Madison Christian School are working together as a team to construct a float for Groveport's Fourth of July Parade!  It will emphasize one ministry, one campus, one mission - working together.  It will highlight the many things that happen on this campus seven days a week, 24 hours a day.

Father's Day

Submitted by Paul Barnes on June 15, 2010 - 3:27pm.

Two years ago on Father's Day, I was rushed to the hospital suffering from appendicitis. Not being the sharpest tool in the box, I had waited too long to admit I had a problem and seek attention. Now I was paying the conseqences. In between episodes of nausea and vomiting, I told Diane, This Father's Day sure stinks. My dad is gone. My boys do not live at my house anymore.

Microcosm of Life

Submitted by Paul Barnes on June 10, 2010 - 9:32am.

I like sports.  One of the things that I find most fascinating about sports is that they are a microcosm of life.  There are some life lessons, like teamwork, commitment, hard work, etc., that can be learned through participating in sports.

Double the Pleasure

Submitted by Paul Barnes on June 2, 2010 - 4:34pm.

In 1980, Diane and I were happy to be able to announce that we were expecting.  Our son, David, was born in June of 1981.  It was a wonderful joy to have him, and he was a delight to the entire family.  In 1984, I called my parents and asked, "Do you enjoy being grandparents?"  "Of course!" was their reply.  I said, "How would you like to double
